Scott's of Oldham
Welcome
Scott’s of Oldham was a large haulage company based in the northern mill town of Oldham in Lancashire.

The company ran an extensive mixed fleet of vehicle's including AECs, ERFs and Leyland's across the whole of the country.

They had major storage and delivery contracts with firms such as United Glass Bottles, Bowaters Paper, Showerings (Babycham), Mc Alpine's and Delta Cables to name but a few.
They boasted depot's in Newton-le-Willows and Ellesmere Port with a huge four floor warehouse at Pine Mill on Sherwood Street in Oldham and their maroon and gold lorries were a regular sight on our roads across the whole of the country.

NOTE: All the vehicle's in the gallery's that bare a BU (Borough of Oldham) number plate were all purchased brand new by Scott's over the years.

In the late 1970s Scott's was bought out by a company from Bacup (RHM) and was later amalgamated with Henry Johnsons Transport from Chadderton when the name was then changed to Scott's of Oldham Ltd.
This company lasted for a period of time but the once great family name would totally disappear from our roads over the following years.

This web site is intended to give an insight into the Scott dynasty and also using pictures and personal accounts to show what it was like to work for what was once one of the largest transport companies in the North West of England from the 1920s through to the late 1970s when all family ties were finally broken and the company was sold.

As more pictures and captions are added over the coming months I would like to take this opportunity to thank Barry and David Scott.

Barry, the son of the late Ronnie Scott, has supplied many of the images while David, son of the late Alwyn Scott, has supplied much needed information.
I am also indebted to renowned truck photographer Peter J Davies for letting me use some of his superb images.
Also a thank you to former driver Jack Kershaw for his expert knowledge and invaluble help in supplying information relating to former employee's, picture locations and many other facts.

Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane and would like to hear from any ex drivers or employees who may have old pictures or any other information about the long gone haulage company 'Scott's of Oldham'
